GBS

The Group B Streptococcus (GBS) Vaginal and Rectal test, also known as GBS screening, is a test used to detect the presence of Group B Streptococcus bacteria in the vaginal and rectal areas of pregnant women. The test is important because it identifies pregnant women who are carriers of GBS, allows for targeted antibiotic prophylaxis during labour to prevent neonatal infections, reduces the risk of serious complications in newborns, and aligns with established guidelines to improve maternal and infant health outcomes.
